HISTORY

After seeing the large six foot one frame of Goa’s PWD minister Churchill Alemao you can make out the years of experience he has in the game of football. It is hard to imagine that he once played football for his village. He wanted to be a part of the Varca village team but he woke up from his dreams when his father died and he had to hold up the responsibility of his family. Later Mr. Churchill had to work as a deck hand with a cruise vessel so that he can earn living for his family.
He recalls his history with the powerful relationship with the football game. He and his whole family is so strongly related to the game that they say that the game of football runs in their blood. While talking about his father he says that his father left on the work of the corporal in the Portuguese army for becoming a football match referee and this represents the love they have for the game.
While he was working as a deck hand he got a chance to own the Varca Sports Club. He undertook the chance with much pride and also he found an outlet for the love for the game. When he became the president of the Varca Sports Club he only had an amount of Rs.100. before his own sports club formed it was Varca Sports Club that actually enjoyed the benefaction of Mr. Churchill Alemao. All this happened at the time when there were no specific rules and all the players were chosen on the basis of their capabilities to play the game.
To make the players employed Varca sports club was undertaken by the Madras Rubber Factory. But eventually the rubber factory had to close the doors for the players; this was the time when Mr. Churchill Alemao thought of building up his team. He gave shelter to all the players who had talent and love for the game. He had the option of starting up the team in his own name but he also wanted to involve all of his brothers so he named his sports club as Churchill Brother’s Sports Club.
He started his journey from the very small village of Goa. Being the first family sports club in India they gave all their love and affection to their players. They are not just players they are now considered as a family. With the love for the football Mr. Churchill Alemao also stepped into politics which made him a great man of honor. The political start as now developed a strong and successful football team. Outside the land of Goa Mr. Churchill Alemao is not respected for his success in politics but he is known for his football club.

Churchill Brothers Goa is definitely the one family club in India and was formed in 1988 with the avowed aim to foster the development of the game of football in Goa and India.

The brothers have come a long way from being mere players for the Varca club to forming their own team, which initially began participating in the inter-village tournaments. The thrill of playing and fielding young, energetic and talented players from all over Goa culminated in the habit of winning. And each victory increased the family’s resolve to win and increase the trophy collection at home.

Today it is common knowledge that Churchill Brothers Goa Sports Club has matured into a highly competitive team in all respects and is capable of locking horns with any team worth the name in the country.

The club, which survived, for quite a lengthy time on local talent, is now in a position to sign good foreign players apart from a set of fine talent from other states in India.
